My View

Social Media is playing a huge role in modern society structure. Sharing information as well as receiving it, is conducted primarily through social media platforms today: The following are Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and many more. We might not realize how much does it affect us, its growing impact on us has reached our work, workplace, working environment, work productivity, relationship between colleagues, employer, customers. It brings to work, positive and negative effects, such as decrease in productivity as a negative and as a positive, improvement of employee engagement. Some of the following questions is my personal view on the key question of this blog, short answers provided are only small part of the real situation, what is the affect of social media on the workplace?

Usage of social media without a doubt can benefit and harm a business in many ways:

Making Money by selling their product through ads on social media platform, this isn't a groundbreaking insight, but it's critical: if you don't pay for the product, the product is you. The real deal here is that a media firm is renting your eyeballs to its marketers, not providing you with entertainment in the form of a free momentary distraction manufactured at considerable expenditure by a media corporation.

How can it ruin the business company?

It enables brands and enterprises to communicate directly with their customers at any time and from any location. Several firms have also failed as a result of misusing social media as a marketing platform and destroying their reputations or wasting a lot of money.

How can an employee benefit from social media usage?

A human organism needs during work a break. Employees can take brief breaks during the day by using social media, which can increase productivity. Employees can take a little mental break from work while still sitting at their computers, rather than going outside or to the break room.

How can an employee lose from social media usage during work hours?

When using social media, people are prone to getting caught up in the moment and oversharing details of their personal life that are best kept private. However, this may compromise your privacy by allowing others to assess you, sometimes subconsciously, based on your beliefs, choices, and personal life.

Your coworkers are just like the folks who surround you. They could even build prejudices against you based on your social media behavior and disseminate ludicrous rumors from one department to the next. Even if you are one of the company's top performers, they will frequently overlook your work performance or how you treat your coworkers.

Keeping things professional at work is the greatest method to maintain your colleagues' privacy to themselves.

One of the sub-topic questions that I want to finish this blog with – Should media be allowed in the workplace? Or should you block access to social media?

This was a genuine question in the early days of social media. The technology was new at the time, and it was not as widely used as it is now. However, nowadays, using social media at work is a given. We already know that 8 out of 10 employees use social media at work, and that they do it on their personal phones. This is true whether the company has a social media policy in place. We've also demonstrated that social media may be used for a variety of commercial purposes, such as discussion and knowledge sharing. So, blocking social media at work is unlikely to be the best solution for your company currently. It's almost certainly impossible to pull off. So, the actual question is: how can social media be used most effectively in the workplace? Let's start with the advantages and disadvantages. That manner, we can come up with a strategy that emphasizes the benefits while minimizing the drawbacks.

  1. Hi,Artem! Social media literally overwhelmed our society and its impact is impossible not to notice. I like your point of view related to the issue with the teacher and her account on OnlyFans because it's important to speak up about it in order to prevent discrimination or bullying only based on the personal social media account. I appreciate how you researched this topic and wish you keep going!

  2. Hey Artem!
It is true that social media exist in the workplace, and a lot of employees use it during the work-time or during breaks. In fact, many of the employers try to limit the access of the workers in the social media during the work, which, I think, affects the attitude towards the work and bosses. However, I like your point about the benefit of social media in the workplace, and it is true that the distraction of attention from work for couple of minutes can positively affect the efficiency of the work completion. So, I really enjoyed reading your blog and your opinion about the issue of social media in the workplace. Good job!
